Administrative Graduate Assistant

Administrative Graduate Assistant - Residential Life

Responsibilities: 

  • Effectively direct all Centralized Mail Room and Residential Life front desk operations, creating a student first environment, providing excellent customer service to residential students needing a variety of assistance and services. 
  • Responsible for daily management of student employees, efficiently building their schedules to ensure there are no gaps in coverage to the operation, while being mindful of student workers schedules. 
  • Train, lead, select and evaluate student staff. Clearly communicate roles and expectations for mail organization and package processing.
  • Serve on call with other Hall Directors as a resource to students and staff, responding to student needs, emergencies, and crisis concerns in an appropriate and timely manner.
  • Must be able to live on campus: Partially Furnished Apartment and Meal Plan is provided as additional compensation for this role to ensure that the GA in this role is able to serve effectively on call. Meal Plan is also provided. 

 

Learning Outcomes: 

 

* Be able to train and develop other professional and student staff members on 
communication, reflective listening, confrontation, procedure/protocol, crisis response, 
and learning based program development. 
* Learn to apply management and leadership principles to the supervision and direction 
of a variety of groups of student personnel including Resident Advisors, Office Assistants, 
and other group leaders by building a competent and proficient staff.
* Examine, analyze, and categorize common problems and tasks that arise in Residence 
Life and be able to prioritize tasks, seek alternative solutions, and outline steps for 
escalation when necessary.

 

Qualifications:  

• Exercise excellent organizational skills while following strict guidelines and protocols for mail operations.
• Problem solving, and working under pressure during busy times. This position is considered a working supervisor position. Expect to be working alongside student workers, and regularly directly serving our residents. 
• Assist with creating a welcoming, equitable, and inclusive work environment
• Perform administrative tasks in accordance with established Residential Life procedures and deadlines.
• Assist with the training, supervision and evaluation of student staff.
