Career Outreach Graduate Assistant INTERIM POSITION – Spring 2023 ONLY

Position Description: 10 hours per week for the *remainder of the 2023 spring semester* Position not guaranteed to renew
General duties include:
  • Present on variety of career topics, including career exploration, resume and cover letter writing, and the job and internship search process to classes, student organizations, and other requesting groups.
  • Staff tables and other sponsorship opportunities at SCSU events to promote Career Center resources.
  • Communicate with presentation requestors in a professional manner. Manage the requests to organize assignment of the Career Center team and keep everyone informed.
  • Manage presentation data in Handshake, Excel, and Outlook
  • Work on data projects as needed
  • Assist with coordination and implementation of job fairs and career events
  • Meet with students to provide guidance on writing resumes, cover letters, and the job and internship search process
  • Contribute as a member of the Career Center team at programs and events
  • Distribute agenda for and record meeting notes for team meetings as needed
  • Attend team meetings and presentations as needed
  • Additional duties as assigned
 
Qualifications: Must be a graduate student admitted to a recognized program and carry a 12 credits (for year) class load.*this position is available for the remainder of the 2023 spring semester only* Position not guaranteed to renew
  •  Demonstrated presentation skills
  •  Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Previous experience working in a capacity as a mentor, advisor, counselor, supervisor, or in another guidance or leadership capacity.
  • Excellent customer service skills
  •  Demonstrated attention to detail
  •  Able to maintain confidentiality with regard to records and information
  •  Able to take direction and work independently
  •  Experience with Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Outlook
  •  Evenings and weekends will be required for career events and workshops
Preferred Qualifications
  •  Experience with statistical software (SPSS, R, Excel)
Typical work hours are weekdays between 8:00 am – 4:30 pm. While every effort is made to accommodate class and practicum schedules, flexibility with scheduling is A MUST! We create a vibrant, developmentally-focused environment with individual supervision and on-going training.
