Graduate Assistantship: Huskies Food Pantry Operations

Food Pantry Operations
• Independently oversee opening and closing procedures.
• Ensure proper processes and rules are being followed during open hours.
Training
• Facilitate onboarding training for new pantry student workers, interns, or volunteers.
• Be well-informed on health and food safety regulations and ensure student staff follow procedures.
• Provide training on civil rights laws and proper food handling. 
Supervision
• Supervise daily operations of the food pantry student staff and assign cleaning and stocking tasks.
Front Desk – Customer Service Oversight
• Ensure positive, welcoming, and non-discriminatory customer service is provided to students entering the food pantry.
• Adhere to Civil Rights laws relating to individuals using the pantry.
o Goals of Civil Rights – fairness and equality, elimination of barriers, and knowledge of rights.
• Communicate federal TEFAP eligibility requirements for pantry use. Ensure posters are visible.
• Report any significant concerns immediately to the supervisor.
Shipment Receiving/Stocking
• Oversee weekly food shipment delivery from the Second Harvest Heartland truck, ensuring proper process is followed during shipment delivery in a timely and effective manner.
• Recruit volunteers and manage the sign-up process. Ensure volunteers complete a Waiver of Liability form before working.
• Communicate the duties of moving boxes and stocking to volunteers.
• Direct proper stocking of food in refrigerators, freezers, and dry storage.
• Ensure expiration dates are checked and proper shelf rotation procedures are followed.
Data Collection and Reporting
• Ensure student check-out forms are being completed accurately and efficiently.
• Run reports on weekly pantry users, summarize data, and report to the Dean of Students Office.
• Maintain confidentiality of pantry user data at all times.

 

A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution and admission to a graduate program at St. Cloud State University.  Significant experience in civic engagement or service-learning, event planning, project management, and advising  preferred – including working with students, community partners, faculty, staff, and student organizations.  Students pursuing the field(s) of  higher education, student affairs, public administration, counseling, business, or related fields are preferred.  Excellent organizational, program planning and projection, and oral and written communication skills required, along with a willingness to learn, accept feedback, and provide direction to undergraduates.  A student must be admitted to the School of Graduate Studies, be in good academic standing and be enrolled full-time each semester of the appointment. International students, as well as U. S. citizens and residents, are eligible to apply.  Must be in good standing with the University and consent to a Code of Conduct & /or background check as well as a reference check.
