Graduate Assistant-Career Services

Position Description:

  • Assist in the administration of the Handshake recruitment system; including the approval of employer accounts, entering and updating employer contact information, and assisting with other aspects of the Handshake system as needed.
  • Coordinate Walk In Wednesday Coaching Days: set-up and preparation of rooms, gathering of supplies, greeting and assisting employers in finding their room locations, instructions and checking in employers. Greeting students, checking them in, determining which employers they will meet, controlling the flow and traffic of students and ensuring grading rubrics are completed for student.
  • Create and facilitate workshops including pre-career or internship workshops.
  • Assist with promotion, coordination and implementation of job fairs, career events and tabling.
  • Meeting with students looking for part-time and internships.
  • Attend team and other meetings as needed.
  • Additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications: 

  • Must be a graduate student admitted to a recognized program. This position will be 20 hours. Full-time assistantship must carry 18 credits (for year); part-time must carry 12 credits (for year)
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Must possess counseling, advising or mentoring skills
  • Ability to represent office in a professional manner to a wide variety of audiences
  • Demonstrated public speaking skills
  • Demonstrate strong attention to detail and effective organizational skills
  • Able to maintain confidentiality with regard to records and information
  • Able to work independently, as well as a part of a diverse team
  • Experience with Microsoft Word, Outlook and Excel
  • Achieve and maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher in all graduate work
  • Prefer candidates from College Counseling and Student Development programs, Higher Education Administration, Strategic Media Communications, MBA-Sales Focus or those with previous experience in recruitment/staffing, career services or event planning.

Commitment:

  • Typical work hours are weekdays between 8:00 am – 4:30 pm however occasional evening and/or weekend hours may be required.
  • While every effort is made to accommodate class and practicum schedules, flexibility with scheduling is A MUST!
  • Wednesdays from 9 a.m. - 2 p.m. are required as part of your hours.
